Accounting and bookkeeping has not changed fundamentally in 300 years. Unlike career paths that are more technical in nature, you don't have to retool your skills every few years.
An accounting position is somewhat predictable. While some prefer to work in an environment of constant change, many of us would prefer to have fewer surprises in the course of the day, fewer fires to fight.
At the end of the day, it is very nice to be able to leave work at work. Accounting is the kind of job that doesn't rule your life the way that other types of white-collar jobs can. It is likely that you will never get a call at home about work and that you will never have to leave home for extended business trips. Your job exists within the wall of your office. The rest of your time is truly yours.
Accounting is not an optional task. It must be done. In fact, it's required by law. Besides, any successful business owner recognizes that the information that you will give them through accurate accounting reports will help to point out problems while something can still be done about it. Your input as an accountant makes the company more profitable, making you a truly valuable member of the company team.
